We spend one-third of our lives sleeping. It helps us restore tissue and generally gets our bodies ready to face the next day. However, there are various factors, both internal and external, that affect sleep, including mental stress, caffeine intake, a poor diet, and snoring.

Whether you are a snorer yourself or are sleeping next to one, you know that it can be both a tiring and a frustrating affair. With literally thousands of snoring aids out there to choose from, it is often difficult to know which work – and which are right for you.

With the goal of reducing or eliminating snoring from your life, the folks over at Somnifix have released a new sleeping aid that might just help solve your problem. Made with mouth breathers in mind, these mouth strips are easy-to-use, unobtrusive to the eye, and most importantly, effective. Our Somnifix review attempts to uncover just how well this snoring aid manages to live up to its promise.

What Is Somnifix?

Somnifix is a mouth strip that is made from skin-friendly and hypoallergenic adhesive that supports the jaw and tongue whilst you are sleeping. Why do we need support? While we are sleeping, our mouths may fall open, causing the jaw to drop and our tongue to fall backward. As a result, this maneuver creates a blockage and ultimately disrupts our nose breathing patterns, which then leads to mouth breathing, open-mouth snoring, and non-compliance for those using CPAP sleep therapy.

Made to look almost invisible and easy to apply, Somnifix improves sleep quality by regulating your breathing patterns. Forcing its users to channel the air coming in through the nose, as opposed through the mouth, the mouth strip has a breathing vent that regulates the breathing rhythm and even acts like a little filter for the air coming in. Its hypoallergenic adhesive is gentle on the skin and does not leave any residue behind when removed.

The strip is flexible and fits all mouth shapes and sizes. In addition, a biocompatibility test was performed in order to ensure that no lip or skin irritation occurs when the mouth strip is applied, so you can rest assured that Somnifix is perfectly safe for use.

However, it is important to note that Somnifix Mouth Strips are NOT recommended for people with nasal breathing difficulties. As the product is forcing you to use your nose instead of your mouth, those who are unable to use their nasal passages properly will find the product counter-effective. Somnifix Mouth Strips is not suitable for:

  • People with nasal breathing difficulties
  • People with a severe heart condition or breathing problems
  • People who are obese (BMI over 35)
  • People who have consumed alcohol or sedatives
  • Those with a cold or a sinus infection
  • Those with severely chapped lips or non-intact skin

How Is It Different?

While researching for this Somnifix review, we found that apart from reducing open-mouth snoring and improving nasal breathing, Somnifix also helps improve CPAP compliance with either nasal masks or nasal pillows. Please bear in mind that Somnifix Mouth Strips are not to be used as a substitute or an alternative to CPAP sleep therapy.

Somnifix Mouth Strips the mouth remains closed during sleep

As far as dry mouths go, a common side-effect of open-mouth snoring, it is drastically reduced – and for some, even completely eliminated thanks to the strip which keeps the mouth closed throughout the night.

What is also important to note is that you do not have to be labeled as a ‘snorer’ in order to use Somnifix Mouth Strips. Mouth-breathing is a common issue that usually does not get addressed.  The problem with constant mouth-breathing is that it can lead to hyperventilation because we are inhaling and exhaling too much air. This leads to an imbalance in the CO2-O2 exchange, which then triggers the brain to slow our breathing, creating nasal breathing problems. Somnifix aims to fix this problem for you.

Apart from being latex free, the strip is also gluten-free, an important characteristic to keep in mind for those who might be worried about their daily gluten intake. The entire content of the box is recyclable!

User Experience

Our Somnifix review so far has already covered pretty much everything related to how and why the mouth strip is used. Applying and removing Somnifix is not a complicated procedure, on the contrary.

Here is how to apply your Somnifix mouth strip:

Step 1: Wash and dry your lips.

Step 2: Remove the mouth strip from its liner.

Step 3: Close your mouth and press the lips together.

Step 4: Turn the lips slightly inward. Then apply the strip with the central vent positioned where the lips meet.

Somnifix Mouth Strips reduce open-mouth

Removing the mouth strip is just as easy as it is putting it on. Once you decide it is time to take it off, all you need to do is force your mouth open and the strip will dislodge itself from your mouth on its own, no need to use your hands! The mouth strips are designed for one-time use and are non-reusable.

As already mentioned in our Somnifix review above, the adhesive is hypoallergenic and it is specially designed to be in contact with your lips. No sticky residue or skin irritations to worry about either after it has been removed.

As we are so accustomed to breathing through our mouth, some people, however, will be inclined to take off the mouth strip during the night. This does not mean that the mouth strips are not for you. It only means that you need some time to get used to this type of snoring aid. After around 5 nights, you should be completely accustomed to wearing Somnifix.

Price

The price of Somnifix Mouth Strips stands at $17.99 per box (1 box includes 28 strips) if you decide to go for a one-time purchase. If you do decide that the product is just what you have been looking for, then you can save 5% with a monthly subscription and get Somnifix at $17.09 per box per month. There are no obligations involved in the subscription process, you may choose to modify or cancel your subscription plan at any time.

The price is relatively decent considering that the cost per strip is around 0.64 cents, which is a small investment for a good night of sleep.

I bought these strips about 2 weeks ago. I tried very hard to use them, but they irritated my skin so badly that it is impossible to continue. I emailed the company about the problem and to request a refund, but the only reply was some inocuos teaching about mouth breathing. Obviously, this is NOT a reputable company, or they would have responded with a definitive answer about returns AVOID AT ALL COSTS-OR JUST SET FIRE TO YOUR MONEY- IT WOULD BE EASIER AND MUCH LESS PAINFUL.

I ordered this to item about 13 days ago, still hasn’t arrived and I cant get an email back from the customer service email yet. Very frustrating when I spent money and I’m not getting my order or any answers.

My wife bought these for me for Christmas. At first, I thought it was a joke, however, after being forced to use them, I have noticed that I am sleeping better through the night. My wife is also very happy. It took me a while to get used to it, however, after night 3, it all started to make sense. The only downside is that the strips are not exactly easy to apply when you have facial hair. It takes a while for it to stick, but with a little practice, I am sure it won’t be a problem.

I have had trouble with snoring as long as I can remember. I came across Somnifix about a month ago and although, it took me a while to get used to something being taped over my mouth while sleeping, now that I got the hang of it, I never go to sleep without it.

What a great find! I have been using Somnifix for about a week now and I can already tell the difference! I am waking up energized and without that horrible cotton-dry mouth to greet me every morning.
